Gabriel recently submitted the final version of his thesis entitled "Corestone-saprolite interfaces as tracers of the Proterozoic surface environment". He was also offered a Faculty of Science Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) to answer some new scientific questions raised during his BSc thesis project. This summer Gabriel will be working on the electron probe microanalyzer and laser ablation ICP-MS to study the mineralogical controls on the distribution of Cr, U, and Mo in his paleosol samples. These new data will help us understand the extent of oxidation-induced mobility of these elements in groundwater during chemical weathering processes operating 1.85 billion years before present!
